Who We Are
SAWs Virginia is an independent affiliate of SAWs Inc., a national, faith-based mission founded in Indianapolis, Indiana in 2003. It operates in Arizona, Illinois, Indiana, Nevada and now Virginia. SAWs Virginia is replicating the model and success of its founding organization.

Our Mission
SAWs Virginia is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that builds custom designed wheelchair ramps for impoverished persons with long-term,ambulatory disabilities to restore their freedom, independence and dignity allowing them to access medical services more easily, improve the safety of their home, reconnect with their community and age-in-place regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion or creed.
The Need
An aging population is showing a greater increase in disabilities than previous generations. In our service area alone, there are over 10,000 ambulatory disabled persons who potentially qualify for a SAWs Virginia ramp.
In 2019, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported only 19.3% of these persons were employed[i], suggesting a significant disabled population that is underemployed and living in poverty.

Why It Matters
SAWs Virginia is solely dedicated to providing wheelchair ramps to create safe access to the homes of the impoverished. The ramps often give the user the freedom to stay in their homes and age-in-place.

"Being outside is like the best medicine for me. I'm so grateful for everything SAWs has done for us. Now that I have a ramp, I'll be able to do all the things I did before and more. I'm just grateful for the opportunity to thank you from the bottom of our hearts." - Nicky M.
Who Qualifies
Our clients must have a total household income at or below 80% of the Average Median Income (AMI) of their specific county of residence. Medical debt is considered, and veterans and first responders are given scheduling priority.
