Grant Writers

Grant writing is critical to the survival of any nonprofit. A volunteer grant writer will develop compelling grant proposals and manage the submission process, directly contributing to our financial health and community impact. Online resources and a library of data are available to support the role. 

SUPERVISED BY:  Executive Director 

 

DUTIES:

  • Identify grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government sources that align with the organization’s mission and programs.

  • Craft and edit persuasive grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and supporting documents. Use storytelling and data to clearly articulate the organization's needs and intended impact.

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and staff to collect information, prepare documents, and submit applications on time.

  • Maintain a grant calendar to track deadlines and monitor the status of all applications.

  • Work with staff and other volunteers to gather program information, outcomes, and budget details needed for proposals.

  • Assist in maintaining relationships with current and prospective funders.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven experience in grant writing, professional writing, or non-profit fundraising is desired.

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and research skills with strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, set deadlines, and organize complex information efficiently.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills for coordinating with the team and communicating with potential funders.

  • A passion for and commitment to the mission and work of SAWsVA.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or grant management software is a plus.

  • Must be a registered volunteer. Register at www.SAWsVA.org.

  • Organization Profile containing critical organization information, language, and data

  • Client testimonials

  • Large photo library

 

COMMITMENT:

  • One grant application per month for a minimum of 12 months.

  • Flexible and can be tailored to suit your availability.

 

LOCATION:

  • This is a remote volunteer position with a flexible schedule.

 

TRAINING: 

  • Training will be provided by an experienced volunteer.
